Shelly For School Board
Shelly Roehrs, District 6 School Board

Shelly Roehrs is running for Spartanburg County School Board District 6.  She is committed to improving the lives of the children in our community. Through her, we can make a difference!  In her experience, boards made up from members with the most diverse experience are the most successful.  This kind of melting pot of experience allows for a richer environment of ideas and ways to accomplish objectives.  This is why we are excited to have someone like Shelly be a part of this community.  From her military experience, to the success of starting and running her own company, to the help she has provided to many local, national and global non-profit organizations, Shelly will bring so much value to our area schools.

Shelly sees this, like her military service, as a calling; a chance to serve the community where her and her family live, work, worship and contribute today and long into the future.  Having come to Spartanburg three years ago from Greenville because of the schools and the community here in district 6, Shelly has been passionate about making this area a leader in education for her children our state of South Carolina and even the nation.  Being a member of the school board would be an honor and privilege that Shelly would take as seriously as her service to our nation.

Through many grassroots meetings, discussions and area events, folks in our district are very proud of where our schools are today, but recognize that there is still more that can be done to realize the vision of making Spartanburg the education corridor of South Carolina.  Shelly would like to serve our community and help to improve our already great schools to a level beyond where they are today.  She will do this by:

    • Expanding and exploring options in pre-K initiatives, pilot programs in mathematics excellence, after-school programs, corrective reading, and opportunities for disadvantaged children
    • Encouraging more arts related programs that enrich education and provide alternative outlets for our youth when not in school
    • Helping schools become more financially self-sufficient through better fundraising, cost reductions and revenue generating ideas that would reduce or even eliminate the dependence of our schools to ask the community for funds in the form of additional taxation
    • Leveraging her environmental experience by ensuring new development or remodeling is following Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (or LEED) guidelines, thereby reducing long-term costs associated with maintenance and daily operation
    • Introducing more cost reducing and science related projects like solar energy and micro wind turbine projects that can be worked into existing science curriculum, prepare our young people for more green jobs and serve to reduce costs to schools as well as increasing environmental education and awareness to educators, parents and students
    • Using her many years of political experience to improve the connection between the educational community and the legislative community, to ensure our area has the best resources for our young people and that our educators have the voice necessary to be successful

Our volunteer base is growing daily as citizens have seen our community begin to grow into an educational corridor for South Carolina and as a result, have renewed sense of hope. You too can make a difference. Sign up for our newsletter, email us to volunteer or if you feel compelled to do so, please make a contribution to the campaign.  Join Shelly in advocating for improvements in our community schools so we can build a better world for our children.
